Montfort Name
Montfort Oakville Restaurant took its name from a significant Middle Eastern historical landmark: the Montfort Castle, originally built in 1226. The French name translates to “strong hill” or “mountain fortress,” reflecting our restaurant’s commitment to strong, authentic Mediterranean tradition. The castle was first built by French Crusaders and later owned by the German crusader knights of the Teutonic order. Though many tried to conquer the formidable structure, the Mamluk Sultan Baibars succeeded in 1271, allowing the castle inhabitants to leave with their possessions. To prevent future reoccupation by crusaders, the Mamluk army eventually destroyed the castle, leaving behind the powerful ruins we honour today.
The History of Montfort Mediterranean Cuisine – The Shoufany Family Legacy
Growing up, I had the privilege of being a part of the most incredible experience: learning the true meaning of traditional Mediterranean cuisine from the Shoufany family. We learned from my mother at a young age how to grind falafel, and harvest ingredients like grapes, lemons, and olives—all essential for our time-honoured family recipes. Through my travels, I learned that fresh, quality food is just as important as exceptional service and a warm atmosphere. Pleasing my guests as if they are family is the key to a successful Oakville restaurant, ensuring they look forward to their next visit to their home away from home.
With today’s hectic lifestyles, we know that time is precious. The Montfort family aims to make life a little less challenging by offering a menu with a variety of homemade fresh take-out items, in addition to our full catering menu for events in Oakville and beyond.
My name is Rabab (Rebecca) Shoufany, the proud founder of Montfort Mediterranean Cuisine. With the grateful assistance of my parents, Melad and Georgette, I opened the first restaurant in 1993, choosing the name Montfort because it perfectly represents who my family is: “strong mountain.”
The Shoufany family is the true foundation of Montfort. We stand behind the belief that “food, family, and friends” are a shared richness that is not just part of our culture, but a way of life that we are privileged to share here in Canada. In 2015, the Montfort family grew when Dr. Jad Amoury joined the business and has been warmly welcomed by our staff and loyal Oakville patrons. Together, Jad and Rebecca will continue to work hard to see our new Oakville location grow.
With these values instilled, we know that what people still want and expect today is fresh, healthy, and affordable Mediterranean food. This is what Montfort Oakville represents and guarantees to this day.
